Career Workshops
One way to volunteer your time and connect with DePaul students and alumni in addition to strengthening your group facilitation and presentation skills is to facilitate career development workshops through the Career Center. Volunteers who have knowledge or experience with career development topics are welcome to participate in this program.
Guidelines
- Employers who recruit at DePaul University and ASK participants can volunteer their time to facilitate career development workshops in the fall, winter, spring or summer quarters
- Workshops topics include: resume and cover letter development, negotiation skills, interviewing skills, networking skills and how to work a job and internship fair (these are some of the most commonly facilitated workshop topics)
- Volunteers may use their own workshop materials or the Career Center can provide materials (or Career Center materials may be used to supplement the volunteer’s materials)
- Volunteers will go over workshop content, materials and questions with the Associate Director of Career Services prior to facilitating the workshop (all logistics such as marketing the workshop, reserving the room and copying materials, etc. are handled by the Career Center)
- Time commitment is approximately 3 hours (we ask that the volunteers arrive 30 minutes prior to the workshop and workshops are typically 1 and a half hours (this is flexible depending on the facilitator); this includes 1 hour of preparation time
- Workshops are comprised of DePaul University students (both undergraduate and graduate) and alumni and each workshop has 5–20 workshop participants on average
- Workshop logistics are confirmed 1 week prior to the date of the scheduled workshop
